The course of Linguistics is intended for 1st year licence students. It is an introduction to modern linguistics which aims to enlarge students’ knowledge in the field of linguistics.  More specifically, it seeks to provide the students with pertinent knowledge about:  the origins of language and linguistics, different definitions, functions and features of language, linguistics as a science as well as Ferdinand de Saussure’s dichotomies. Furthermore, the students are provided with a set of practical activities and exercises for each topic and questions for debate.
