This module, intended for second-year Biological Sciences students, presents the main scientific methods and techniques used to study living organisms, from cell observation to the analysis of organisms and populations. It enables students to discover the basic tools of modern biology, including light and electron microscopy, cytological, biochemical, cytochemical, immunological, and genetic engineering techniques, such as DNA sequencing.
The module also covers practical methods for studying living organisms in the field and in the laboratory, such as herbarium preparation, breeding, cultures, collections, and dissections. It aims to develop students’ methodological understanding of observation, analysis, and experimentation approaches applied to cells, living organisms, and animal and plant populations.
